Far-Sighted Karma

The news is often full of tragedy, violence, and horror.  I recently asked my students to find an international current event and then write short persuasive essays.  A few found articles about more positive things, like this one on organ donors.   A large percentage of the population of Sri Lanka have pledged to be organ donors of their eyes when they die.  Cornea transplants restore sight for lots of people, and there are never enough corneas.  Many Sri Lankans are Buddhist, and they believe that helping others in this life will carry onto their next.  I’m encouraged by their example of triumph, peace, and the joys of sight restored.
