Blackberry Pies

This spring and early summer I picked a lot of blackberries. A lot. Partly it was fun to get outdoors and enjoy nature. Since they grew wild among honeysuckle and underbrush, it was slow to find them while being cautious of snakes and wasps. A wasp stung me once. I worked hard to pick all those berries, twice a week for several weeks. I ate a lot of blackberries with vanilla ice cream. That tasted great! However, I also froze 16 cups for mom to make blackberry pies. Over Thanksgiving, she made the first two (of four). Blackberry pies are usually good. These pies tasted better because I had contributed. Most things in life are sweeter when we earn them. Savor your victories this week!
