30-pound Fish, or Doing Too Much

Sometimes people try to catch a 30 pound fish on a 20 pound line. If they pull all at once, try to do too much, then the line will snap and the fish will get away. The only way to reel in a big fish on the lighter line is gently, with slow and steady progress. It’s going to take some time and attention. It can’t be done all at one moment.

I feel like a lot of things in life outweigh the equipment that I’ve got to use. I see goals and want to accomplish them quickly. I want to get it all done in a day, but that’s too much. It won’t happen. It would just escape me. There are no get rich quick schemes, only ripoffs. There won’t be one day of perfect writing and then it’s all done. There probably won’t even be one day where I get every errand run because a store would be closed for remodeling or out of stock of something. No, I need to make steady progress and feel good about it.

And apparently, I need to keep reminding myself of this over and over again, every time I keep feeling impatient and frustrated. I hope you’re having an easier time with working towards your goals. As much as you can, be patient, and patient with yourself.
