“I am not young enough to know everything,” said Oscar Wilde.
Most of the times when I’ve messed up the worst have included me feeling like I already know everything. On the other hand, almost every breakthrough moment of clarity or insight happens right after admitting to myself that I don’t know. A little bit of wisdom is realizing I need to learn a lot. Teaching and writing are both occupations where the person can always learn more, always gain more skill. Maybe that’s true for every profession, and those are the two I know enough to see that truth. At any rate, part of what I love about my careers is that I can always learn more. Open mind!
Also, I just finished Picture of Dorian Grey on my Kindle. Fantastic book! (An “often overlooked classic” in the words of a college buddy.)
